On Thursday, May 23 at 2PM ET, please join USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) and the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) for a virtual panel discussion with OTI visionaries. In honor of OTI’s 30th anniversary, former OTI leadership will share lessons learned from 30 years of responding to political crises and discuss how OTI’s model remains more relevant than ever.

In 1994, USAID Administrator Brian Atwood established OTI to provide fast, flexible, short-term assistance during windows of opportunity to build democracy and peace. Since then, OTI has played a pivotal role in helping countries to fortify their democratic aspirations in a variety of innovative ways—from helping evacuate civilians from besieged towns during Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian civilians, to supporting local partners to maintain civic space and call for an end to war in Sudan.

As we face evolving crises across multiple fronts in incredibly volatile environments, OTI’s expertise in remaining responsive to U.S. foreign policy continues to put our programs at the forefront of many policy discussions.

The discussion will be moderated by Brittany Brown, Acting Assistant to the Administrator of USAID’s Bureau for Conflict Prevention and Stabilization, in conversation with former OTI leadership.
